Appetizers

Jalapeno Peanut Butter Boat Appetizers

Appetizers and hors d'oeuvres are served before dinner, either sitting at the table as a first course (when they are usually called appetizers) or while socializing at a cocktail party (when they are usually called hors d'oeuvres). Finger food, a less formal term for hors d'oeuvres, like the Jalapeño Peanut Butter Boats shown here, would be served during cocktails. You might serve another more formal appetizer at the table.

The snack section of your supermarket will have lots of chips and dips to choose from, and the deli section will have cheese balls and other cheeses to go with crackers. By all means take advantage of those to leave yourself more time to party with your guests.

A selection of nuts, chips and dip, some cheese and crackers, and maybe a little salami is fast to prepare and fairly easy on the budget.

Sometimes, however, you want to throw in something special that you made, especially if you are showing off your new cooking skills. So this section has some ideas for you to use, and modify, and to encourage you to be creative.

Take a look at some of these ideas. I'm adding more regularly, so check back now and then to see what's new.
